Summary

2017 Minnesota Book Award Nominee

Research assistant Sofia is good at being alone. She’s had plenty of practice.

Infrequent phone calls from her free-spirited older sister and slightly more frequent visits from the pizza delivery guy don’t make for a satisfying social life. So when she stumbles onto a centuries-old conspiracy to cover up the existence of an immortal, she’s hooked. She isn’t going to let anything get in the way of unlocking the secret to eternal life. Not even Arthur. Or Arthur’s easy grin. Or the fact that her immortal might be a vampire that isn’t interested in new friends.

Sofia is determined to solve the mystery, no matter the cost. But when her sister’s soul gets dragged into the mix, she has to decide just how much she is willing to pay to not be alone.

Redemption is the first book in the Eternal Watch series. If you like smart, sassy women, supernatural suspense, and a tragic love story, buy (and read) Redemption today.

My review

5/5 Stars

This is one of the best vampire books I’ve ever read. Even better because I didn’t see the vampire twist coming. The story begins with Sofia, a research assistant, who has been tasked with the newest job of researching Chinese legends for her boss. During her research, she’s found a secret—a man named Stephanous—who doesn’t seem to age across pictures dated decades and centuries apart. She realizes she’s come across the secret of immortality.

Fast paced and hard to put down, Redemption twists Sofia’s entire world until everything she knows at the beginning of the story is eventually lost. Everyone has secrets and they all include her. After her sister, Lorelyn, gives her a box of her grandmother’s belongings, Sofia realizes that she is more tied to Stephanous than she ever imagined and her destiny has been written for her.

However, Sofia is left with a choice. Save herself or everyone she loves?

The author has a wonderful way of writing each scene so that I felt so bad for Sofia at the end of the story. After all the loss she suffered, I am very much excited to see where the author takes her in the next book. If you’re a fan of vampires, angels, and suspense, this is definitely a series for you!

Proud author responsible for Dead by Morning and The Council, fascinated by the dark and macabre. Stephen King is her all time inspiration mixed in with a little bit of Eminem and some faint remnants of the works of Edgar Allen Poe. When she began writing, she started in horror but it somehow drifted into thriller. She loves the 1988 movie Heathers. She was born and raised in Michigan but traveled across the country to where she currently resides in Texas.
