Summary

Dmitry, seeking to explore the possibility of more human weapons, starts a series of events that results in dead bodies connected to Gwen turning up in town. Reeling from a forced end to the romantic relationship between her and Sebastian, Gwen is set up with Shane, a witch who is seen as more suitable.

Shane, despite already having a life of his own, has no choice but to pursue the now broken and vulnerable Gwen, even at his own peril. When the bodies of all the men she formerly loved start to show up, minus their hearts at gruesome crime scenes, he becomes a real ally in helping her solve the mystery of who is behind the carnage.

Since Gwen’s list is short, Dillon and Shane are in imminent danger. Old allies take on new roles, some helpful and others deep betrayals. After she links the carnage to her family, Gwen must overcome more than guilt to stop the murders.

My review

5/5 Stars

In Gwen’s latest adventure, it seems that things are looking up when she meets a handsome young witch on her vacation, one who is seemingly enamored with her. Beneath the surface, however, things are not as they seem. Dmitry is at work again, pulling the strings behind Gwen’s lover, Shane. With the new line of dead bodies turning up, Gwen hardly suspects a thing is off with her new romance. When she figures out that the connections between the murders involve her, Gwen is faced once again with Fannie in a new battle that not only endangers her but the lives of everyone she loves.

I love how throughout everything Gwen goes through that she remains true to herself and is capable of holding onto those she loves. It’s for this reason that I really hated Shane’s character and the way he manipulated her though his character was very well written. This book, like the previous in the series, was loaded with suspense, and I can’t wait to see where the author takes poor Gwen next.

Proud author responsible for Dead by Morning and The Council, fascinated by the dark and macabre. Stephen King is her all time inspiration mixed in with a little bit of Eminem and some faint remnants of the works of Edgar Allen Poe. When she began writing, she started in horror but it somehow drifted into thriller. She loves the 1988 movie Heathers. She was born and raised in Michigan but traveled across the country to where she currently resides in Texas.
