Title: Of Blood and Antiquity
Author: CJ Santana
The first book of the “Of Blood…” series, CJ Santana’s novel is dark fantasy meets mythological science fiction. Featuring multiple characters and sweeping arcs that depict a family of immortals who are imprisoned by an angry mother who refuses to let go. Will those who band together to stop the Conqueress succeed?
I always love to read new takes on mythology, and this book was right up my alley. From the very beginning, I was hooked at the prospect of this girl who’s been groomed her entire life to be a sacrifice. That idea alone set up the world within the story in such a way that I couldn’t leave. I was spellbound as I read through the different character ARCs, waiting to see how they would all clash.
I think throughout this piece, my favorite character was Urdik because he made his dedication to his sister so clear. He was willing to risk life and limb for her to live, even though everyone else had accepted the idea of her death since the time of her birth. All the characters were written in a way that made them three-dimensional, with their own goals and flaws, and that made the story even better.
