Title: Malediction: The Prequel
Author: Duke C.
A family curse is chasing Damien and trying to destroy his life. Nightmares and dark visions are causing him to hallucinate and slowly lose his mind. Laurence, a wealthy businessman, is dealing with demons of his own. A fractured relationship with his mother causes him to become violent and unpredictable. When the two lives cross paths will Damien be able to escape the evil world that revolves around Laurence?
Damien’s nightmares rule his life to the point where even eating and sleeping is compromised. In his dreams, he sees a woman in black and that’s when he’s told of his family curse. He’s desperate to free himself, and that’s when he meets Laurence who is pretty much his opposite. Together they embark on a mission that’s both unexpected and very entertaining.
There are a lot of characters to keep up with in the story though the majority of them, with the exception of Damien and Laurence, are two-dimensional. There is a lot of death, murder, and gore throughout the story too so this is not a tale for the faint of heart.
With some more editing, this story could clean up into a real chiller.
