Summary

Coralie was looking forward to another restful summer in her favorite location. Her life has always been routine, and she thrives on the quiet that her getaway location has to offer. This summer, however, is nothing normal.
She is about to learn that everything she thought was nothing more than folklore is real, and it’s more terrifying in person than it is in the books. As her world turns upside down, she must learn to navigate a new reality and possibly resist the charms of the Sheriff of the South, Damian Blackwood. Although she is intrigued by him, there is a side of him that terrifies her more than she is willing to admit.
There is something at play in the mansion owned by Mr. Blackwood. Dark forces are teaming, just waiting for the right moment to strike. Coralie is about to learn that she might not survive the summer and that there are more secrets lurking that are waiting to be discovered…

My Review

5/5 Stars

I absolutely adored this gothic read.

When Coralie is getting ready for her annual trip, she doesn’t anticipate the fact that she might never return home. What starts as a normal day quickly takes a turn for the worst when she is stumbled across by a vampire who has ill wishes for her. Another vampire saves her, but to make sure she stays that way, he must marry her.

Now, it’s not very often that I get the chance to read and review gothic fiction, but it’s books like this that make me want to read more into the genre. Coralie was a very likeable character. Even when she was in the throes of danger, I liked that she was quick on her feet. When her world is turned upside down, she has a unique way of navigating herself through it.

As well as well-fleshed out characters, I loved the descriptions of the settings. The entire story had a very creepy Edgar Allen Poe feel that made the story even more intriguing. There is plenty of action, suspense, and romance, and if vampires aren’t your cup of tea, well, there are werewolves too!

Well worth a read!

Proud author responsible for Dead by Morning and The Council, fascinated by the dark and macabre. Stephen King is her all time inspiration mixed in with a little bit of Eminem and some faint remnants of the works of Edgar Allen Poe. When she began writing, she started in horror but it somehow drifted into thriller. She loves the 1988 movie Heathers. She was born and raised in Michigan but traveled across the country to where she currently resides in Texas.
