My Review

4/5 Stars

Addy has dreams of death. Bloody, violent. In them, she’s a child, but the place, the cabin, looks familiar. She tries to brush them off at first, but her classmates start to turn up dead. Murdered exactly like the people in her dreams.

This was a good read. Short and intense. It hooked me. The entire past of Addy and her sister, plus the involvement of her mother, made this really interesting. Not to mention the cliffhanger at the end.

I liked Addy. The Goth loner who’d rather hang with her boyfriend than go to a school dance. That’s a character I can get behind. She was real down to Earth. Each of the characters is interesting in their own way. The way that the author tied Mary and Addys’ past to the future was a twist I definitely did not see coming.

I loved the premise of this story, and I will definitely be reading book two when it comes out, but I’m giving this four stars instead of five because I felt like there were a few areas that were glossed over without the detail that would make them really pop. People were murdered in such quick succession and without anyone really feeling much emotion for any of them. Plus, I felt as if Addy’s decisions at the end of the book were a little questionable. I hope she has a plan in store for book two, but for the time being, her actions didn’t sit right with me.

Overall though, fantastic YA mystery/thriller.

Proud author responsible for Dead by Morning and The Council, fascinated by the dark and macabre. Stephen King is her all time inspiration mixed in with a little bit of Eminem and some faint remnants of the works of Edgar Allen Poe. When she began writing, she started in horror but it somehow drifted into thriller. She loves the 1988 movie Heathers. She was born and raised in Michigan but traveled across the country to where she currently resides in Texas.
